FAQs

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes. We operate as fiduciaries for our advisory clients, which means we are legally and ethically bound to always act in your best interests. Our recommendations are based solely on what is most appropriate for your specific financial goals, and we prioritize transparency regarding fees and any potential conflicts of interest.

Do you have a minimum investment required to work together?

We don’t have a minimum; however, our typical client has invested with us around $1,000,000 or more in assets. Because our process involves deep-dive tax analysis and estate planning, we find our value is most realized by clients at this level of complexity. That said, we remain committed to supporting the people closest to our existing clients and handle those relationships on a case-by-case basis.

What services do you provide beyond investment management?

Investment management is only one piece of the puzzle. To help ensure your wealth truly serves your life goals, we provide a holistic suite of services.

  • Comprehensive Financial Planning: We create a roadmap for major life milestones – from retirement and education funding to major purchase and career transitions.
  • Tax Planning Strategy: We don’t just look at what you earn; we look at what you keep. This includes strategies like tax-loss harvesting, reviewing retirement contributions, and analyzing the tax efficiency of your portfolio.
  • Estate Planning Coordination: We help you structure your legacy by reviewing beneficiary designations, discussing trust structures, and helping ensure your assets are positioned to transfer to your loved ones efficiently and according to your wishes.

Is my money safe?

Yes. We prioritize the security of your assets by using an independent, third-party custodian: National Financial Services LLC (NFS), a Fidelity Investments company.

This means your money is housed at one of the world’s largest and most established financial institutions. Your assets are protected by several layers of security:

  • Segregation of Assets: Under federal law, client assets are kept separate from the custodian’s own corporate funds.
  • SIPC Protection: NFS is a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). Through SIPC, clients are protected against custodial risk by replacing missing securities and cash up to $500,000, including up to $250,000 in cash, per client.
  • Excess of SIPC Coverage: In addition to SIPC protection, NFS provides “excess of SIPC” coverage for brokerage accounts. The excess of SIPC coverage will be used only when SIPC coverage is exhausted. Total aggregate excess of SIPC policy is $1 billion. Within NFS’s excess of SIPC coverage, there is no per-customer dollar limit on coverage of securities, but there is a per customer limit of $1.9 million on coverage of cash awaiting investment. This is the maximum excess of SIPC protection currently available in the brokerage industry

Please note: While these protections guard against the failure of a financial institution, they do not protect against the rise and fall of the market value of your investments.

How often will we meet or communicate?

Open communication is the foundation of our partnership. At a minimum, we plan scheduled annual reviews to help track progress and adjust your strategy but nearly of all our clients should hear from several times a year. This is so we are aware of life events and can discuss market updates while also implementing proactive tax and estate planning strategies.

Do you work with clients outside of Seattle?

While we are proud to call the Pacific Northwest home, our practice is equipped to service clients nationwide. Through secure video conferencing and digital collaboration tools, we provide the same high level of personal service and sophisticated planning to clients across the country.

Why should we work together?

You aren’t just a number. We take pride in knowing our clients on a personal level.

Most people have a “financial junk drawer” – a collection of accounts, insurance policies, and tax documents that aren’t talking to each other. We help you organize that drawer into a cohesive strategy.

By integrating technical experience in quantitative portfolio management with comprehensive tax and estate strategies, we help bridge the gap between complex data and your personal values. We act as your “personal CFO” coordinating the moving parts of your financial life so you can spend less time worrying about the numbers and more time living your life.
